Catching Pokemon

How this system works

Catching Pokemon is the primary way to add Pokemon to your Party, though some are gifts. It is well known that you need to weaken the target Pokemon before you capture it.

When to try to capture a Pokemon, you match your Capture Pokemon Stat + Ball Bonus vs. Pokemon’s Current Hit Dice times 2.

Lets say a Rookie Trainer with a capture Pokemon Stat of 3D is trying to catch a Rattata. Rattata has Base of 3D Stamina, so it has 54 or more HP. That means it has full 6D capture resist.

Our Rookie uses a Pokeball right away.
Capture Pokemon Stat + Ball Bonus vs. Pokemon’s Current HP
3D + 2D vs 6D {54/54}
1 + 1 + 3 + 3 +2 vs 5 + 5 + 4 + 1 + 3 + 2
10 vs 20
Needless to say, that Rattata is not captured. He uses Bulbasaur’s Tackle (6D damage) a few times to weaken the Rattata to 14 HP. Now, there are 3 checks that must be made to successfully
3D + 2D vs 2D {14/54}
5 + 5 + 4 + 1 + 3 vs 5 + 2 success
1 + 4 + 2 + 1 + 3 vs 2 + 3 success
3 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 3 vs 6 + 6 + 6 failure
Rattata bursts out of the Pokeball.
Our trainer tries again
3D + 2D vs 2D {14/54}
5 + 5 + 4 + 1 + 3 vs 2 + 4 success
1 + 4 + 2 + 1 + 3 vs 2 + 3 success
3 + 2 + 6 + 4 + 3 vs 3 + 6 success
An easy capture, and our rookie trainer can gain the data on Rattata in his Pokedex.
